Brent Centre for Young People, London
The Brent Adolescent Centre provides a comprehensive service to young people 14-21 years of age in the following areas: Mental Health, Drugs & Alcohol (Advice and Treatment), Sexual Health and a Connexions Personal Adviser Service.
These services are provided mainly to residents (including Irish) of the borough of Brent, and other London boroughs.
We have awarded £4,000 towards the Irish Young People Mental Health and Practical Support Project: to continue to provide a vital wrap-around support to at least 40 Irish young people.
Support offered includes;
Adolescent Exploratory Therapy – recovery-focused preventative therapy helping Irish young people to manage and overcome their mental and emotional difficulties
Psychotherapy - a more intensive and longer-term treatment with sessions offered up to 3 times a week to those with more complex problems.
Practical Support – intensive and tailored support for those with issues of safeguarding, domestic violence, homelessness, accessing benefits, education, employment or training
Parent Support – enabling families or carers to better understand underlying issues, empathise, work together and create supportive home environments to address mental health difficulties of adolescents
Professional Support and training to organisations to improve awareness and understanding of the mental health needs of young Irish people.
