Superstar IYF Supporter Heather Farrell in the London Marathon

VIRGIN MONEY LONDON MARATHON 2020 – SUNDAY 26 APRIL

We’re so delighted to have Heather Farrell running the London Marathon this year on our behalf. Without further ado, please read on to hear more about Heather and her preparations for the big day.

“I am so glad to be a part of the work the Irish Youth Foundation are carrying out for the Irish communities in the UK.”

My name is Heather Farrell. I am a 26-year-old pharmacist from Dublin who moved to the UK for university after finishing my leaving certificate in Mount Anville Secondary School. I have lived in the UK for almost 8 years now, spending 4 years in Reading and now nearing 4 in London.

I have been so lucky to have lots of support networks around me in the form of friends and some family, too, but I am well aware this is not the case for many Irish people in the UK. Especially in this current political climate, I think it is so important to spread respect, awareness and understanding of various cultures and experiences and I am so glad to be a part of the work the Irish Youth Foundation are carrying out for the Irish communities in the UK. I am running the London Marathon this year for the foundation and surprisingly enough, I cannot wait!

I am thoroughly enjoying fundraising and organising events as it engages everyone around me and creates a community spirit just like that of the foundation itself. The training on the other hand – is tough, but it is so worthwhile knowing that the funds raised are going to such a worthy cause close to my heart. Thank you to everyone supporting me along the way – Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir!
