IYF Supporting ….. The Great Escape

IYF helps fund ‘The Great Escape’ which gets 45 young people out of inner-city Belfast to the countryside each summer. Led by Willowfield Parish Community Association, they learn new skills, build relationships and have fun away from the city during the often tense July days.

One leader told us of ‘L’: “This young woman has been heavily influenced in recent years by local community politics, and in particular the drug and alcohol culture ….. She has struggled with her sense of identity and during the camp she found she had such a good experience without drugs and felt a true sense of belonging, and has decided to give up drugs altogether. In the month since camp she has been true to her word and we are now working closely alongside her to ensure she stays on this positive path. As she has recently turned 18, she was given the opportunity at camp to take on some minor leadership roles and has expressed interest in joining our Leaders In Training programme when it begins this term.”

Much of the money supporting projects like ‘The Great Escape’ is raised at our Winter Ball @TheDorchester.   If you’d like to buy tickets please click here.
